make statements in 2018

If you follow along on Instagram (@hillarykweidner), you’ve noticed more outfit posts than normal and I wanted to share my initiatives with Make Statements for 2018 🙂

When I started this blog in 2011 or 2012 (I lost track) I was primarily posting about fashion and statement pieces – hence the name Make Statements.  I chronicled planning a wedding, moving into a home, getting pregnant and slowly the fashion took a back seat.

Make Statements transitioned into more of a lifestyle blog and once Bea was diagnosed with biliary atresia, it became a necessary outlet to update family and friends on the day to day medical decisions and events that were going on in our lives.

Throughout our journey over the last couple of years, I have really missed posting more about clothing and style.  It’s not because I don’t think about it – but it was because I wasn’t buying really anything new and honestly, I just didn’t have time to find fun clothing online.

My Dad always reminded me to keep sticking with my blog, keep posting, keep it going.  One of the things that made me so happy was that he was so proud of this blog I created and he was one of the only reasons I found time to post.

The second half of 2016 and all of 2017 honestly seems like a blur to me.  Yes, of course, I vividly remember major moments and milestones but my overall “being” was just getting through each day, each moment, each minute.  My mind was wrapped up in my sadness and shock of missing Dad and quite frankly, I was in survival mode.

Missing Dad will never go away and although he is always in the front of my brain –  I am actively trying to come out of the haze.

Going into 2018 I am waking up and have set some personal goals I want to work towards – certain people to lean into more, give more attention to a certain animal (I bet you can guess), and focus & do what makes me genuinely happy and what makes me a better partner and mom.  And to be more grateful.

One of the things that made me so happy in the beginning of blogging was the fashion and clothing.  Talking and sharing about brands and trends and featuring some of my own outfits – SO – you will be seeing more of that!

ALSO – if you aren’t signed up for then you need to!  When I post an outfit or product on Instagram and you “like” the photo, that outfit or product will go directly to your Inbox where you can shop it!  You won’t have to wait until I actually post it on my blog several days later.  Sign up HERE.

Looking forward to a great & healthy 2018 – thanks for following along!

weekly wears

What a nice, snowy and cozy weekend 🙂  I hope you all stayed warm!  Below are a few highlights from our week 🙂

[A perfect after nap hairdo by Miss Poppy]

[One of my friends – Jen –  made these no bake energy balls for me either after our surgery or after having a babe – my memory is foggy 🙂 – and I’ve been addicted ever since.  They are super easy to make and they really satisfy the relentless sweet craving I have at the end of the night.  The ingredients are simple, they don’t take long to make and they keep great in the fridge!  Enjoy!]

[We ventured to the Contemporary Arts Center and they girls had a BALL – and they exerted a ton of energy running around!  Highly recommend.  In other news – Bea looks so old in this pic I took of her during our visit.  Find her pom pom sweater HERE.]

[I always get a ton of questions on where I got the jacket below.  I LOVE IT.  The jacket is army green and the fur trim is like a blush pink.  I bought it from the Nordstrom anniversary sale but you can find it HERE., or HERE or HERE. ]

[AH.  And the comfiest slippers I have ever put on my feet.  They are perfect for this time of year but also a great gift idea for a friend or family member!  Find them HERE!  And in navy HERE.]

[And, you guyssssss.  If you follow along on Instagram (@hillarykweidner) you know that I am obsessed with Trader Joe’s.  I never thought I would make the full transition, but I actually do my whole weekly grocery shop from TJ’s and love everything I get from there.  In fact, I need to do a blog posts specifically for the top 10 items I live for from Trader Joe’s.  In the meantime, drive to your nearest TJ’s and buy these.  They are divine.]

[My younger sister and her husband kindly offered to watch the girl’s Saturday night and I know the best way to get to their hearts is a cheese board.  I have been trying to be a little healthier so I incorporated some alternative options (like cucumber vs a cracker).  I also cut up a rotisserie chicken breast to dip into this spicy honey – which I got from Trader Joe’s]

[THE SNOOOOW!  These girls loved a quick trip outside to play in the snow during our Friday night storm.  Poppy wasn’t too sure but Bea was ALL IN!]

[And it’s no surprise that these two girls have my whole heart.  So sweet.]

Enjoy your Monday!

lip miracle worker

In these cold and extra dry winter months I am constantly looking for products that will help me moisturize.

This time of year, I always find that my  lips suffer the most.  I’ve tried a million different chapsticks, lip glosses, scrubs and masks (yes, they make lip masks).  Nothing has really done the trick in keeping my  lips hydrated except for this new brand I found called Lanolips.

Their 101 ointment is great for me.  It is clear, glossy, and hydrating.  I put it on by itself or will layer below a colored lip gloss lip stick to keep everything smooth.  This 101 ointment can even be used during your bedtime routine – put it on your lips, moisturize your cuticles and help it fight your crow’s feet.

Find it HERE.

My bestie, Meggie, from Hyde Park Moms also posted about Lanolips yesterday (we share the same brain) and she really loved their lemonade lip treatment because it WORKS (and smells and tastes delicious).

Find that one HERE.
